Williams: Usuthu remain hopeful of promotion

AmaZulu midfielder Zaakir Williams says they remain hopeful of securing promotion to the Absa Premiership.

Usuthu are 15 points behind log leaders Thanda Royal Zulu, who are favourites to win this season’s NFD title and secure automatic promotion.

However, second-placed Black Leopards are seven points ahead of eighth-placed Usuthu with nine matches left in the current 2016/17 campaign.

Fast paced midfielder Williams believes that the Durban-based side can finish the season in the top three and secure a place in the PSL Promotion/Relegation play-offs.

“Well, it has not been a fairytale season for us. Overall, things have not gone according to plan this season,” Williams told AmaZulufc.net.

“However, we remain hopeful and we believe that we can still gain promotion to the elite league through the play-offs,” the 23-year-old attacker said.

Williams, who has made eight appearances in all competitions for Usuthu, is content with how he has performed in his first season with the club.

“I think I have done well considering the fact that it’s my first season with the club,” Williams added.

“I am quite happy with the growth that have had with the team so far. I am sure that I will be able to contribute much more in the future.”

Usuthu are scheduled to take on Stellenbosch FC in a league game at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday. Kick-off is at 15h00.
