AmaZulu and Bafana Bafana midfielder Marc Van Heerden has expressed that he is not intimidated by the competition for his place in the team that comes with Orlando Pirates pair Patric Phungwayo and Thabo Matlaba in the national team.
Van Heerden, who was part of the COSAFA squad, said he acknowledges that Phungwayo and Matlaba are great players, but if he gets a chance he will give it his all when Bafana takes on Gambia on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
“Yes Thabo and Pat are both quality players. If I get my chance I will take it, but we’re all good left-backs and are in the team for a reason, so whoever gets chosen on the day must go out and do the job,” he told kick-off.
The set piece specialist machine said he is grateful to be part of the team and looks to enjoy every moment.
“Having said that, it is high-profile game for the country and it’s a privilege to be here,” he said.Share
