Usuthu out to end successful season on winning note

AmaZulu FC will square off with their KwaZulu-Natal rivals Maritzburg United in the DStv Premiership match at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 15h00 CAT.

AmaZulu secured a second-place finish by defeating Swallows FC 1-0 on Wednesday 2 June, thanks to a goal from Tapelo Xoki.

The KwaZulu-Natal giants will, as a result, play in the CAF Champions League for the first time later this year.

Usuthu have claimed 25 points from 14 away matches this season, with their last result on the road a 1-0 loss at Orlando Pirates last month.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg missed out on the chance to guarantee top-flight football for next season when they were beaten 2-0 at SuperSport United on Wednesday 2 June.

The result left the Team of Choice three points above the relegation playoff spot.

The Team of Choice has claimed 17 points from 14 home matches this season, with their last result as hosts a 3-2 win over provincial rivals Golden Arrows last month.

In head-to-head stats, Maritzburg and AmaZulu have met in 23 league matches since 2006/07.

The Team of Choice has claimed 11 wins compared to two for Usuthu, while 10 matches have been drawn.

The Pietermaritzburg side has claimed claimed six wins and suffered just one defeat from 11 home matches in the rivalry.

When the teams met earlier this season, at Kings Park Stadium in January 2021, they played out a 0-0 draw.

The last three league meetings of Maritzburg and AmaZulu have produced just one goal.
