Usuthu keeper Josephs’ leadership qualities hailed

AmaZulu FC head coach Cavin Johnson has hailed Moeneeb Josephs’ leadership qualities.

The experienced goalkeeper produced a Man of the Match performance as Usuthu beat Free State Stars 2-1 in an Absa Premiership match at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday.

Usuthu captain Mbongeni Gumede scored an unfortunate own-goal which gave Stars an early lead, but two second-half goals by Emiliano Tade and Mhlengi Cele handed the hosts the victory.

Josephs called on Gumede when he received his Man of the Match award at the end of the game.

“That’s the leadership qualities that’ll take the team to the next level,” Johnson said.

Josephs, who joined Usuthu from Bidvest Wits prior to the start of the current season, pulled off magnificent saves to deny Stars attackers Goodman Dlamini and Harris Tchilimbou.

“Again, I said this at the beginning of the season, we didn’t bring Nhlanhla Vilakazi for nothing. I thought he was outstanding and Moeneeb saved us in the first half,” he continued.

“I thought he made two very, very clear saves with the one from Dlamini especially. I thought Dlamini was on goal and he made a save.

“But to be able to remember that when you get the Man of the Match it’s not for you, it shows a lot of maturity as far as Moeneeb is concerned.”

Usuthu’s next Absa Premiership match will be against Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday, August 29. Kick-off is at 19h30
