Usuthu eye second successive win against Downs

AmaZulu FC will travel to the Loftus Versfeld Stadium where they are scheduled to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership match on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 15h30 CAT.

Usuthu claimed their first win of the 2020-21 season on November 4, as a brace from Luvoyo Memela secured a 2-0 home win over Black Leopards.

AmaZulu’s only previous away match this term saw them beaten 1-0 at league newcomers TS Galaxy in October 2020.

Coach Ayanda Dlamini’s side is placed ninth on the league standings having accumulated four points from three matches.

Meanwhile, Sundowns claimed a second victory of the campaign when they defeated Cape Town City 2-0 away from home on November 4, with goals from Lyle Lakay and Keletso Makgalwa.

The Brazilians’ only previous home game this season saw them held 0-0 by league newcomers Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in late October 2020.

As a result, the reigning champions are placed at the top of the league standings with seven points from three matches.

In head-to-head stats, Sundowns and AmaZulu have met in 59 league matches since 1985.

The Brazilians have claimed 38 wins compared to eight for Usuthu, while 13 matches have been drawn.

The Tshwane side has won 17 of their 29 home matches in the rivalry, suffering six defeats in the process.

Last season Sundowns completed a league ‘double’ over AmaZulu, winning 1-0 in Tshwane in November 2019 thanks to a goal from Jose Ali Meza.

While a Themba Zwane brace inspired a 3-0 win in the return game at Moses Mabhida Stadium in January 2020.
