Usuthu eye fourth league consecutive win at Swallows

AmaZulu FC will be targeting an away victory when they face Swallows FC in a DStv Premiership match at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 15h30 CAT.

Usuthu secured a 5-4 win on penalties against Lamontville Golden Arrows following a 1-1 draw in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 game at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on February 6.

The KwaZulu-Natal giants defeated Bloemfontein Celtic 4-3 in their last match in the DStv Premiership and it was also their third successive win in the competition.

AmaZulu have claimed six points from as many away league matches this season and the 2-0 win over Baroka FC on January 23 was their first victory on the road in 2020/21 term.

Meanwhile, Swallows claimed a 1-0 win over GladAfrica Championship side Cape Umoya United in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 match at Dobsonville Stadium on February 7.

The Beautiful Birds played to a third successive draw in the league when they drew 1-1 with SuperSport United on January 30 and it was their last game in the competition.

However, the Soweto giants extended their unbeaten start to the season to 14 matches in the league following their draw with SuperSport.

Swallows have claimed 14 points from six home matches this season, with their last result as hosts a 1-1 draw with Chippa United on January 20.

In head-to-head stats, AmaZulu and Swallows have met in 52 top-flight league matches since 1985.

The Birds have 20 wins compared to 14 for Usuthu, while 18 matches have been drawn.

The teams last met in the Premiership in 2014/15, with Swallows completing a league ‘double’ thanks to 2-1 wins both in Soweto in August 2014 and Durban in December of the same year.
