AmaZulu Football Club and the entire South African football fraternity have been shocked by the sudden passing of Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.
The 27-year-old was shot to death in Vosloorus, Johannesburg on Sunday night, just a day after featuring in his last match for the Buccaneers as they defeated Ajax Cape Town 4-1 in a Telkom Knockout quarterfinal.
“This is a sad loss whichever way you look at it — to Senzo’s family, his extended family, Orlando Pirates and to the nation,” Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza said in a statement released by the club.
The Durban-born goalkeeper came through the Pirates’ development ranks and made his first team debut during the 2009/10 season.
He also represented South Africa at youth level before making his senior national team debut in 2013.
He captained Bafana Bafana during the recent 2015 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan, Congo and Nigeria and kept four clean sheets in as many matches.Share
