Recapturing the Narrative of AmaZulu Football Club

AmaZulu Football Club’s leadership comprising of President Sandile Zungu and Director Manzini Zungu held an imperative press briefing in Durban titled ‘Recapturing the Narrative of AmaZulu FC’, following weeks of media speculation regarding Usuthu’s technical team and other aspects of the team.

In his statement AmaZulu President informed members of the media in attendance that the speculative articles, some of which were presented as fact by various publications and media houses, regarding head coach Benni McCarthy’s departure from the club to take up a head coaching position as National head coach were hurtful since they were unfounded.

“These stories were met with great resistance and I have been very consistent that we will not release Benni to go to Bafana Bafana, why, because he is doing a fantastic job at AmaZulu,” stated the President to members of the media on attendance.

“We love and trust Benni and our supporters have been very vocal in engaging with us tell us that if we dare release Benni…and we don’t want angry fans.”

“At AmaZulu we honour contracts, and we expect people to honour contracts, it works both ways. We are clear that Benni is not going anywhere,” added President Zungu.

The President further went on to emphasize the club’s ambition noting that there would be a likelihood of an inaugural voyage into continental football as performance suggests that AmaZulu will compete in either the CAF Champions League or CAF Confederations Cup in the upcoming 2021/22 season.

“We want South Africans to be proud of AmaZulu when they go and compete against other giants on the continent,” he added, “but it will not be before we go and strengthen the team in certain departments.”

His sentiments were shared by the club’s Director, Manzini Zungu, who indicated that the remaining league games and subsequent preparations for the new season were imperative in achieving Usuthu’s next set of ambitions.

“We are looking forward to preparing for an even better season and we want to equip our coach with every possible mean to take the team to even greater success. We want to have an intense pre-season preparation that will ensure we are prepared for continental competition and give the coach enough time to understand the new players.”

“AmaZulu will go to the market and we will reveal our Arsenal, not the football club, but our new players for the new season,” said the Director.

Coach Benni McCarthy also wished newly appointed Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos who was officially announced by the South African Football Association (SAFA) on Wednesday, 6 May 2021.

“Godspeed to the new coach as they prepare for the World Cup qualifiers. There is a lot of hard work that needs to be done by both the administration and the technical team but I’m confident that they can do it,” noted the AmaZulu coach.
