With the challenging 2018/2019 Absa Premiership season well behind Usuthu, AmaZulufc.net sat down with Umlazi born goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha to pick his brain ahead of starting on a new leaf on 17 June when they report for training.
AmaZulu FC: How has off season been? Were there any programs you had to adhere to?
Siyabonga Mbatha: I’ve had a good off season. I was able to get some good rest and rejuvenate. I feel well recharged, but most importantly I’ve started training because we were given programs to adhere to during off season.
AFC: How important do you think off-season and pre-season programs are for adequate preparation before the season commences?
SM: Training and eating well during off season is imperative as it gives us a good head start. It helps us as individuals to keep fit so that when pre- season starts we are fully ready to perform at our utmost best.
AFC: What lessons from last season will the team use to improve this season?
SM: With regards to last season I believe that we as a team need to improve our performances on away games and the way we approach them. Every time we played at home we were a different team and when we played away we were extremely poor.
AFC: Any targets that you or the team may have for the 2019/2020 Absa Premiership season?
SM: I think as a team that would like to challenge to win silverware, so we really need to do well away from home.
AFC: Any personal targets you have set for yourself this season?
SM: Well, I, as a player would like to do better than I did last season. I managed to keep 10 clean sheets last season so this coming season I need to do better, so anything over ten for me would be a great achievement.Share
