Positive start for AmaZulu Glenwood Academy at begin KAY Motsepe Cup

The lads won their opening group match against Thembalethu from the Western Cape in their opening match on Monday morning at Roodeport’s Florida Albion FC grounds. They drew their second match 2-2 against Benny’ Care.

The venue was changed to the latter due to the ongoing student strike at the University of Johannesburg.

Coach Thabiso Makhetha’s side gave a good account of themselves and bagged three points in their Group A match with a 3-0 victory. He said of their opening result: “We started positively and played well against Thembalethu even though we were playing against the wind”

“Our goal had to come from a set piece which eased off the pressure they were putting us under in the first half.”

“We started playing our normal passing game after the goal and that led to us getting the second goal from a counter attack. The third came late in the second half,” he said.

Left-back Josh Concalves scored the first goal through a free kick, while Thamsanqa Nombiko scored a brace.

Their Round 2 fixture saw them draw 2-2 against Benny’s Care of the Limpopo Province in the afternoon through goals from Siyabonga Mfusi and Sbusiso Magaqa.

For their Round 3 match on Wednesday they take on Ncedo High School who hail from the Eastern Cape. The match will be played at 12h30pm.
