Mwedihanga’s Namibia out of AFCON qualifiers

AmaZulu defender Willem Mwedihanga was unable to help the Namibian national team progress to the second round of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations as they suffered a 3-1 aggregate defeat against Congo.

The Brave Warriors were in high spirits ahead of the trip to Pointe-Noire after a lone goal from Rudolf Bester had given them a 1-0 home win in the first leg.

However, the Red Devils of Congo were able to overturn the result on Sunday through goals from Sylvere Ganvoula, Ferebory Dore and Ladislas Douniama.

Mwedihanga and Usuthu midfielder Petrus Shitembi played the entire match and will now look to enjoy some rest before reporting for preseason ahead of the 2014/15 season.

Meanwhile, Usuthu defender Carlington Nyadombo could only watch from the sidelines as Zimbabwe played to a 2-2 draw against Tanzania on Sunday, which led to a 3-2 aggregate loss for the Warriors.

Nyadombo missed the game through injury and will now focus on recuperating ahead of the new season.
