AmaZulu FC Head Coach, Benni McCarthy has given his post mortem of Usuthu’s 1-0 win over Black Leopards which propelled them to 3rd position leaving Lidoda Duvha rock bottom in the DStv Premiership log standings.
Speaking After Sunday afternoon’s Thohoyandou Stadium outing the 43 year old tactician praised his troops for the valiant display.
“I am pleased with the performance, and the three points especially after the international break.”
“I think we didn’t create enough chances to win convincingly, but we definitely created the majority of the chances, that when the 90 minutes ended then we could come away with 3 points,” said McCarthy.
The KZN outfit has now collected 37 points to set themselves towards achieving their top 4 target which were given by club President Sandile Zungu at the beginning of the season.
The former Bafana Bafana target man is however under no illusions as to how tough a shift his boys will have to dish up.
Continuing on the Leopards match he said: “We scored a lovely goal, from a nice interlinking play with Majoro, Memela, Mulenga and Sithebe to go 1-0 up.”
“And then it was just about just putting the opposition under pressure, and taking the moments and playing with the counter attack because they are going to get their opportunity to come at you.”
“They put in numbers in the front and out us players up high but we delt them fantastically, ” said McCarthy.
The former Cape Town City coach warned another tough away encounter awaits on Friday at the Daniel Craven Stadium against Stellenbosch FC who will be baying for blood and a desire to overturn the 2-1 result Usuthu inflicted on them in the first round.Share
