AmaZulu head coach Benni McCarthy was full of praise for his troops in the aftermath of their 1-0 win over SuperSport United at Jonsson Kings Park Stadium on Tuesday.
A first half goal from Siphelele Mthembu was enough to extend Usuthu’s unbeaten run in the 2020-21 DStv Premiership to eight matches and moved the club up to sixth on the league standings.
“Absolutely delighted for the boys,” said McCarthy.
“The players always work hard and they gave me everything they’ve got so I have to be very appreciative of that and I think the game overall was perfect.
“We executed the game plan to perfection. We dominated the midfield. [Xola] Mlambo, [Makhehlene] Makhaula and [Siyethemba] Sithebe – the movement, the way we shifted the ball – they [SuperSport United] just couldn’t get it off us!
“My only criticism is that we didn’t score more than one goal. I am just delighted with the three points and that we keep making our mark in this league. We are a sleeping giant that is slowly, slowly waking up.”
AmaZulu will return to action away to Chippa United next Wednesday. The KwaZulu-Natal outfit beat the Chilli Boys 3-1 in the reverse league fixture earlier this season in what was incidentally McCarthy’s first game in charge of the club.Share
