Maritzburg, AmaZulu in KZN derby

KwaZulu-Natal rivals Maritzburg United and AmaZulu will meet in an Absa Premiership match at Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday, 21 August 2012, kick-off at 19h30.


Maritzburg kicked off their season with a 1-1 draw away to top flight newcomers University of Pretoria.


They are placed eighth on the league standings after the first round of matches.


This will be the Team of Choice’s first home match this season. Last term their home record was P15 W6 D5 L4 Pts23.


AmaZulu were handed a 6-0 home drubbing by Kaizer Chiefs in their league opener and they will be looking for much-improved performance.


They are placed 16th on the league standings after the first round of matches.


This will be Usuthu’s first away match this season. Las term their away record was P15 W6 D7 L2 Pts25.


In head-to-head stats, Maritzburg and AmaZulu have met in 10 league matches since 2006/07.


The Pietermaritzburg side has generally had the upper hand over their provincial rivals, claiming five wins compared to just one for Usuthu.


The Team of Choice boasts an unbeaten home record against their Durban counterparts, with two wins and three draws from five matches.


Last term there was nothing to separate the teams in their league fixtures, both of which ended in draws: 0-0 in AmaZulu’s home match and 1-1 in Maritzburg’s home match.
