AmaZulu FC goalkeeper Neil Boshoff has revealed his ambitions for the upcoming 2020/21 season.
The budding shot-stopper impressed in his debut season in the South African top-flight league – keeping five clean sheets from 10 matches.
Boshoff pulled off good saves as Usuthu held Orlando Pirates to a 0-0 draw in Soweto in what was his league debut on 20 August 2019 and he never looked back.
“I personally think I had a solid season from earning my PSL debut to ending the season with a total of five clean sheets,” Boshoff said.
“And being able to pick up my first Man of the Match award against Black Leopards in Thohoyandou [on 07 December 2019].
“Having a solid back four helped me and the support from the goalkeeping department was immense and it kept us [goalkeepers] competing at our best the whole season.”
Boshoff kept five clean sheets from 10 league matches including the clash with Mamelodi Sundowns in which he replaced Siyabonga Mbatha at half-time with Usuthu having already conceded.
The 24-year-old did not concede as kept the reigning league champions at bay with some brilliant saves in the second-half and ultimately, AmaZulu suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat on 26 November 2019.
“This coming season I want to keep the momentum which I created for myself going which comes with being given the opportunity to play,” he continued.
“And I want to show what I can play at the highest level. So that I can help the team to be in the position we deserve to be in.
“I am blessed to be surrounded by some very good goalkeepers that keep challenging me to get better and better each and every day.”
AmaZulu finished the 2019/20 season in the 13th position on the league standings – a point above the relegation playoff spot.
Boshoff is keen to help the KwaZulu-Natal giants finish in a higher position in the new season which is set to start later this month.
“I hope as a team we can achieve the goals which we will set [for ourselves],” the Pinetown-born player added.
“But personally I want to see us do well and finish as high as possible in the league and have a good cup run.”
Usuthu will start their 2020/21 campaign with a clash with Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership match at the Jonsson Kings Park Stadium on October 24.Share
