Boshoff: A unique season for Usuthu

AmaZulu FC goalkeeper Neil Boshoff is grateful to have been given the opportunity to showcase his talent in the Absa Premiership.

The promising shot-stopper is coming off his debut season in the top-flight league and he impressed with some eye-catching performances.

However, the campaign was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020 and the season was suspended due to the deadly virus.

The season was completed in a Biologically Safe Environment (BSE) in Gauteng between August and September 2020.

“Well, this season was very unique for us,” Boshoff, who made 10 league appearances, said.

“There was a mid-season break due to the coronavirus pandemic and then we finished off the season in the BSE. That was definitely a first for me.

“As a team, we had a very stop-start season with a few ups and downs.”

Usuthu spent the better part of the season in and out of the relegation zone, while struggling, but they were revived by coach Ayanda Dlamini.

The KwaZulu-Natal giants lost just one of their last seven matches and the team finished 13th on the league standings.

“But the guys really pulled through when we needed to and got the job done and survived the drop at the end of the season,” he continued.

“I am really grateful for the opportunity given to me by AmaZulu this past season.”

The 24-year-old would love to see Usuthu compete in the top half of the league log next season and also enjoy a good cup run.

“I hope as a team we can achieve the goals we set ourselves,” Boshoff, who was nurtured in the AmaZulu academy, added.

“But personally I want to see us doing well and finish as high as possible in the league and have a very good cup run.”
