After a stunning performance by AmaZulu which saw them clinch a 3-1 victory over Absa Premiership title contenders Bidvest Wits on Tuesday night at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, coach Steve Barker said he is impressed with his players’ performance.
Over the past games AmaZulu have been playing quality attacking football and it was just a matter of time before they reaped the results. Their 3-1 victory against Wits was their second this year.
Barker said it was important that they score goals and use the opportunities they created, which is something that was a challenge at the beginning of the season.
“It’s a huge, massive performance and it important that we understand that there is a long way to go, but I am pleased with the players’ performance this evening,” said Barker.
“We needed to score goals if we wanted to win and I am glad that we are now able to use our opportunities wisely. We showed great vibe, great togetherness as a team and we defended our lead well from a team that managed to get the ball in the box.
“I am happy with the performance showed by the players but we need to get more of such performances. It was also good to see Bongi Ntuli coming back to his best after struggling with match fitness in the first two matches. Mbulelo Mabizela was also impressive leading upfront and getting us a goal there,” added Barker.
AmaZulu have now scored nine goals in three matches and conceded four, coach Barker said he hopes that they will be able to get a clean sheet in their next match.
“I am bit disappointed that we couldn’t get a clean sheet but what is important is that we are winning. In our next eight games we need to keep clean sheets. Since beginning of January our first half performances were good, the only difference is that we have now started taking our chances,” concluded Barker.Share
