AmaZulu suffered a second defeat in the Multichoice Diski Challenge when they went down 3-1 to Free State Stars at the Nike Football training Centre in Soweto on Wednesday afternoon.
Adam Basit opened the scoring for Ea Lla Koto in the 45th minute and Jackson Maphathe doubled the lead in the 52nd minute before Bongani Ndimande pulled one goal for Usuthu four minutes later.
However, the chances of a comeback were ended in the 67th minute as Basit completed his brace to secure a first win for the Free State side in the competition.
Usuthu will now look to turn the corner when they take on Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday, October 5.
Bloemfontein Celtic lead Group A with four points from two matches, while Orlando Pirates are at the top of Group B with six points.
