First team coach Cavin Johnson gave his pearls of wisdom to the young players on 16 November during the club’s youth awards which were held at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Johnson said: ‘’To the young ones, if you want to be professional football players, show up, get your education and do what you know best,’’ the 60 year tactician enthused.
The coach again this year challenged the youth to push towards following in the footsteps of the likes of Sphesihle Maduna who finished his matric last year a few months prior to signing for the senior team.
The biggest winners were Glenwood High School’s Guy Alcock and Ohlange’s Sifundo Nkosi who received honors for Top Academic Achievers of the Year. Lungisani Sem, Sphesihle Zungu , Kileba Obas and Akwande Cele all received honors for Top Goal Scorer in their respective age groups.
Johnson also emphasised the importance of ensuring that one is educated enough regardless of the talent they possess.
‘’The most important thing is education. Football is a talent we all have, all you need to do is to put in the work to become the best.’’
While the boys did well for receiving their respective awards, all the players were celebrated for performing well in the field and for accomplishing excellent marks academically.
AmaZulu FC General Manager Lunga Sokhela spoke about the importance of having development structures at football clubs.
‘’One must not undermine the importance of development structures within the club and the amount of time put in.’’
Sokhela also encouraged parents to be transparent with the club with regards to any concerns around their children.
‘’We expect parents to be honest and trustworthy towards the club just as well always strive to be,” said Sokhela.
The youth technical director Ronnie Moroka also echoed Mr. Sokhela’s sentiments on parents being completely honest with the club.
‘’We are pleading with the parents to at all times be truthful and trustworthy towards the club so that their children can benefit immensely, ’’ said Moroka.
