Vukusic rallies Usuthu faithful

AmaZulu head coach, Jozef Vukusic is looking forward to playing in front of the Usuthu faithful with the team set to host Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday.

The Slovak mentor says their recent run of away games have left them relishing the opportunity for a match in front of home support.

“It will be a totally different game because we will be playing at home. We have been actively waiting for this chance to play in front of our fans, to show them what we are capable of achieving, we are expecting a good atmosphere and reception, so it will be interesting for us,” he said.

AmaZulu will look to leapfrog the newly promoted Absa Premiership side, Stellenbosch FC, who sit in 10th on the log, five places ahead of Usuthu, who closed the gap to two points following their win against Baroka FC at the end of last month.

Vukusic says they’re aware of the threats posed by Stellies and are anticipating a tough encounter.

“We are coming off a good win against Baroka, which has boosted our confidence but we can not take for granted that Stellenbosch will be a walk over. They have experience and strengths that we have analysed, so we have had to prepare well for them,” he said. “We have also recognized their weaknesses and areas on the pitch which we can capitalize on, so we will look to take advantage of that to get maximum points.”

Meanwhile, AmaZulu’s striker, Bongi Ntuli, who has had a remarkable start to the campaign, having scored all five of the home side’s goals this season, says he hopes to continue his good form into the clash against the Western Cape based outfit.

“As a striker it is always my aim to be scoring goals but I can not take all the praise. I owe a lot to my team mates for putting me in positions that allow me to score. Without them I won’t be able to get on the score sheet all the time,” he said. “I am sure that we will see the others pitching in with goals too, as the season goes on. We have some great players who are able to get on the attack and finish off opponents, so it is just a matter of time before we start seeing that.”

The game will be played under lights at Kwa Mashu’s Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday evening at 7:30pm.

Tickets are available at TicketPro and Spar outlets.
