AmaZulu FC head coach Cavin Johnson is pleased with how the team’s fringe players performed against Mthatha Bucks.
Usuthu advanced to the Nedbank Cup Last 16 after defeating the National First Division (NFD) outfit 3-0 on penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra-time.
The Last 32 encounter took place at the King Zwelithini Stadium where Johnson decided to rest some of his key players.
“Boalefa Pule did well against Mthatha Bucks. He kept us in the game and we went on to win on penalties,” he said.
“Thembela Sikhakhane also did very well at right-back. Samuel Darpoh has not been playing regularly. He has been in and out of the team, but he did well.
Simphiwe Lumkwana, who has been playing in the Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC), scored against Bucks in his first competitive appearance for Usuthu’s first team this season.
“Simphiwe Lumkwana also came on as a substitute. He has been playing in the MDC for while now. We decided to bring him up to the first team,” he added.
“He managed to score the second goal. He was unlucky not to score his second goal. So, we are happy with their performance.
“Sphesihle Maduna is also a special talent just like Lumkwana. Hopefully, we will give them a chance in the next game.”
AmaZulu will travel to the Harry Gwala Stadium where they are scheduled to face their KwaZulu-Natal rivals Maritzburg United in an Absa Premieship match next week Friday.Share
