The KZN Premier’s Cup 2019 edition was launched on Wednesday 11 July at Moses Mabhida Stadium with Usuthu drawn against Uthongathi FC in the tournament’s opening match on 27 July at Princess Magogo Stadium, kick-off at 11:00am.
AmaZulu captain Nhlanhla Vilakazi expressed his delight at the prospect of beginning their defense of the KZN Premiers Cup a week away from the start of the Absa Premiership.
“It’s always good to play in the KZN Premier’s Cup because it helps us to measure our progress in terms of how we have been in pre-season, in preparation for the new season.
“We started well last season through the hard work that we put in, the chance to defend the title especially to give the fans a treat is great,” said Vilakazi.
New arrivals Lehlohonolo Majoro and Andre de Jongh will display what they have in store for the season while also give their new teammates an opportunity to understand their strengths.
The experienced midfielder added: “It’s good for us to participate in the tournament, I myself was a new player last year and I was able to understand what our supporters wanted from us.”
“The tournament will also allow new players to be able to adjust to the style of play in the team before the season starts,” said Vilakazi.
