AmaZulu midfielder Petrus Shitembi is set to miss the 2016 COSAFA Cup which will kick-off this weekend in his home country, Namibia.
The former University of Pretoria player was left out of Ricardo Mannetti’s 22-man squad which will participate in the regional competition.
The exciting winger has been out nursing an injury since early last month and he missed Usuthu’s last National First Division (NFD) game of the season.
Usuthu were beaten 4-1 by Highlands Park away in their final NFD game at the Makhulong Stadium. Siyabonga Nomvethe netted for the visitors.
Shitembi also missed the Brave Warriors of Namibia’s 1-0 victory over Niger in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier over the weekend.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder helped Namibia lift their maiden COSAFA Cup title last year in North West, South Africa.
The Brave Warriors are scheduled to take on Botswana in the COSAFA Cup quarter-final encounter at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday, 18 June 2016.
Shitembi made 25 NFD appearances for Usuthu during the 2015/16 campaign – netting three goals in the process.Share
