The Durban derby between AmaZulu and Lamontville Golden Arrows which is set to take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday night already has all the ingredients of an epic clash.
Usuthu are currently in ninth place on the Absa Premiership table with 39 points from 28 matches and need a positive result in order to return to the top half of the table.
Abafana Bes’thende require nothing less than maximum points to keep their chances of finishing higher than 16th place alive as they look to avoid automatic relegation.
This match will also see a number of Usuthu players who have worn the Arrows jersey looking to put one over their former club.
Defender Msekeli Mvalo made his professional debut with Arrows and also featured for Cape outfit Chippa United before joining Usuthu at the start of the season.
The absence of Carlington Nyadombo through suspension means that he could be in the starting lineup for Tuesday night’s clash.
Left-back Sifiso Hlanti also started his professional career with Abafana Bes’thende and turned out for Thanda Royal Zulu before securing the move to AmaZulu.
Midfielder Njabulo Manqana, winger Tshepo Liphoko and striker Lucky Nguzana will be the other three players who will be hoping to face their former employers.
Manqana and Liphoko joined Usuthu following short spells with Orlando Pirates, while Nguzana is the latest to switch colours, having signed for AmaZulu in March this year.
Arrows on the other hand will have two former AmaZulu players in their books in Nkanyiso Cele and Dumisani Zwane, who were both part of the Usuthu setup last season.
AmaZulu have not lost to Arrows since the 2010/11 season and have won four of the last five encounters between the two sides.Share
