AmaZulu U17 Coach, Darian Wilken’s side finished third place after three days of football during the past weekend’s Engen Knockout Challenge but all is not for the KZN outfit.
“It was always going to be difficult taking two u15 goalkeeper’s to the tournament but I thought the boys did well.”
“To walk away with both forward of the tournament in Nqoba Mdladla and the tournament’s top scorer of the tournament Thamsanqa Nombika shows that we played the attacking style of play that AmaZulu is known for.”
“Youth development is about the long term and I believe the experience of taking younger players with us to this tournament will definitely benefit us in years to come,” said Wilken.
The 2016 title was lifted by Umqhele High School who beat Royal Eagles 1-0 in the final. It was Eagles who ended Usuthu’s hopes of retaining the title in the semi-final by a 2-0 score line.
This is how AmaZulu performed throughout the tournament:
AmaZulu 0-0 Gem Stars
AmaZulu 3-1 Jahman Stars
AmaZulu 4-3 Young Trouble Makers
AmaZulu FC 4-0 Future Stars
Royal Eagles 2-0 AmaZulu
