AmaZulu were narrowly beaten 1-0 by FC Cape Town in an National First Division (NFD) match at the NKK Rugby Stadium in the Mother City on Sunday afternoon.

The defeat sees Usuthu miss out on a place in this season’s PSL Promotion/Relegation play-offs, while the African Beasts survive relegation from the NFD.

Joey Antipas, the Usuthu coach, fielded a strong starting line-up with Mabhuti Khenyeza leading the attack as the visitors targeted nothing, but a victory.

However, it was the African Beasts, who broke the deadlock twenty minutes into the league encounter through Lucky Mathosi.

The former United of Pretoria centre forward hit the back of the net to make it 1-0 to Cape Town following a mistake in the AmaZulu defence.

Usuthu then pushed forward as they looked to level matters, but the African Beasts stood firm at the back and they were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The visitors had to find a way to penetrate the Cape Town defence and level matters in the second-half.

Antipas decided to pull out Augustine Ramphele in the 69th minute and he introduced Dylan Stoffels as Usuthu looked to equalize.

However, the home side managed to contain AmaZulu in the remaining minutes of the match and Cape Town recorded a 1-0 win.
