AmaZulu will face off with FC Cape Town in an National First Division (NFD) match at the NNK Rugby Stadium in the Mother City on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 15h00.

Usuthu are coming off a morale-boosting 5-1 victory over Jomo Cosmos in their previous league game at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday.

Siyabonga Nomvethe (brace), Augustine Ramphele (brace) and Lungelo Dlamini all hit the back of the net for the Durban side on the day.

This was Usuthu’s second consecutive win in the league. Both games were at home and they lost their last away game 2-1 to Milano United over a week ago.

AmaZulu are now placed third on the league table with 47 points from 29 matches. They are three points ahead of sixth-placed Witbank Spurs.

Joey Antipas, the Usuthu coach, will be hoping that Nomvethe continues his good goalscoring form and inspires his side to victory over the African Beasts.

A victory for AmaZulu will see them book their place in this season’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) Promotion/Relegation play-offs.

Meanwhile, Cape Town are coming off a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Thanda Royal Zulu in their previous league game at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex on Wednesday.

This was the African Beasts’ third defeat in their last five league matches. But they won their last home game – beating Mthatha Bucks 1-0 last weekend.

Cape Town are placed 15th on the league table with 31 points 29 matches. They are only a point behind 14th-placed Magesi FC on goal difference.

The African Beasts will look to Lucky Nguzana to help them defeat Usuthu. The striker scored the only goal of the match as they beat Cosmos a fortnight ago.

Johnny Ferreira, the Cape Town coach, knows that a victory over Usuthu, will see them survive relegation if other results go their way.

When Cape Town and AmaZulu locked horns in the first-round league game last October, the former recorded a 2-1 win at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

Usuthu opened the scoring through Koloko Mokhethi’s own-goal, but Siyabonga Dubula and Sabelo Madi both scored for the African Beasts.
