With the Absa Premiership on pause as some teams participate in the Nedbank Cup, the pride of KZN hosted two National First Division outfits Uthongathi FC and Real Kings FC to a two legged friendly on 15 February.
The first match against Uthongathi played to a 1-1 draw. Speedy right winger Augustine Ramphele grabbed a hattrick as Usuthu drew 4-4 against Real Kings in the second encounter which was mixed with first team players and reserves.
AmaZulu FC assistant Coach Alan Clark was impressed with the overall performance and reckons that having a run out against the local NFD sides enabled players to amass more game time under their legs game time in absence of official matches this past week.
‘’The objective of these friendlies was to get all the players in the squad match ready for the coach for selection should we need them, they don’t always get game time so we try to balance that out with the amount of game time in these friendlies.’’
Clark also spoke about the good competition that’s created amongst the players.
‘’It’s good to have good competition where we can test the boys, we had some excellent tactical moments in the game that we worked on in training, it was evident in our game.’’
‘’With regards to tactical aspects , we are always looking for different solutions against the opponents that we face so we try and see if we can teach that and if the players are able to implement that on match days, ’’ said Clark.
Somila ‘’Ballo’’ Ntsundwana who also scored against Real Kings spoke about how essential having a go against the hard running NFD opposition.
‘’Having these friendly matches is very crucial for us because some players don’t get that much of game time so for them it’s to get some mileage on the legs.’’
‘’Even when we do well in a match , there are always tactical aspects we can improve on such as keeping the ball so that we can get to the next level for the following match,” Ntsundwana concluded.
Usuthu’s next two encounters are against Orlando Pirates away at the Orlando Stadium on 23 February and against Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala stadium on 03 March while AmaZulu FC Reserves next two encounters are against Baroka FC at the King Zwelithini Stadium on 23 February.Share
