AmaZulu FC begin their third week of pre-season training this week ahead of an all action packed 2018/19 Absa Premiership season.
Conditioning Head, Joshua Smith gets AmaZulufc.net up to speed with how the KZN based outfit has been progressing.
“The first two weeks of preseason have been great, with the guys responding well to the sessions. As a technical staff, we have implemented our philosophy of using football as a conditioning tool and not having the players perform a generic running programs.”
“The bonus to this is they get football fit, specific to their positions and the tactical model the coach has implemented for the upcoming season. We get to kill two birds with one stone and maximize our training time,” said Smith.
Cavin Johnson’s have already pitted against hard running Baroka FC in the opening match of the provisional league fixtures which will call for much more physical and mental strength.
According to Smith a relaxed approach to the weeks ahead also does the trick at the Usuthu camp after a friendly match played on Saturday, 30 January, following days of strenuous training.
“On Sunday we had the guys come through and do yoga as part of an active recovery session. The emphasis of this is keeping the team engaged but taking their minds off football and educating them on the different methods recovery can be implemented.”
“Overall the guys loved the session and responded very well. It’s going to be an exciting season based on what we have seen so far,” said Smith.Share
