The club visited Ohlange High School on 26 July 2019 in Inanda as part of the KZN Premier’s Cup Social Responsibility initiative, a day before they take on Uthongathi FC at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday morning.
The joint initiative between AmaZulu and the KwaZulu Natal Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture saw the school receive training equipment for their football and netball teams.
The presentation was held in front of a packed assembly of excited scholars who also got to engage with 13 of the club’s first team players led by captain Tapelo Nyongo.
The handover was followed by a brief lecture into the rich history behind the school and its founder, Dr John Langalibalele Dube, which was conducted by Langa Dube, who is the grandson of one of South Africa’s most iconic struggle stalwarts and founder of the club’s print partners, Ilanga News.
An interactive coaching clinic was held straight after the grave site tour of Dr Dube with assistant coach, Mabhuti Khenyeza and head coach, Cavin Johnson overseeing the process.
The club presented School Principal, Mr Siyanda Nxumalo & the grandson of Dr John Langalibalele Dube, Langa Dube with the newly launched 2019/20 Ingonyama replica.
While the aim of the coaching clinics also serves as one of the department’s vehicles to promote the tournament among the youths, Tapelo Nyongo applauded the feedback they received during the brief coaching clinic.
“We were mainly doing basics in passing, receiving, body positioning when receiving, shooting, and calling for the ball while the goalkeepers also did their bit.
Hopefully some of them grasped what we tried to instil in them. It was great that they received us with warm welcome. We love them and they loved us,” said Nyongo.Share
