AmaZulu earned a point away from home when they played to a 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates in an Absa Premiership encounter at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.
Bongani Ndulula opened the scoring for Usuthu from the penalty spot midway through the first half before Thabo Matlaba netted the equaliser early in the second half.
Usuthu absorbed the pressure early in the first half and were eventually awarded a penalty in the 28th minute when Ndulula was brought down by Rooi Mahamutsa inside the box.
The Eastern Cape-born striker dusted himself off to take the resulting spot kick and drilled his shot straight down the middle with Senzo Meyiwa going the wrong way.
The Buccaneers had opportunities to equalise before the break but Issa Sarr saw his shot deflected wide before Tapuwa Kapini dived low to his right to stop an effort from Kermit Erasmus.
Ndulula had another penalty shout in added time when he went down inside the box under a challenge from Matlaba, but the referee booked the striker for simulation.
The hosts levelled matters in the 62nd minute as Matlaba beat Kapini with a low shot from close range after he was set up by Mpho Makola.
Usuthu were under pressure against late in the second half but Kapini pulled off two great saves to keep the scores level, denying Erasmus in the 80th minute and Majoro from point-blank range five minutes later.
Majoro and Erasmus combined again inside the box in the 86th minute, but the latter rushed his volley just wide of the upright as the match ended in 1-1 draw.
