Usuthu fight back to beat Stellenbosch

Vukile Mngqibisa’s second-half goal helped AmaZulu beat Stellenbosch 2-1 in an National First Division (NFD) game at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The victory sees Usuthu return to winning ways and they also edge closer to the top three on the league standings.

The home side took the lead through Diego Brown, who fired past AmaZulu goalkeeper Energy Murambadaro to make it 1-0 to Stellenbosch.

However, Usuthu pushed for the equalising goal and they managed to level matters a minute before the half-hour mark.

Tapelo Nyongo, Usuthu captain, stepped up and converted from the spot-kick -beating Stellenbosch Washington Arubi to make it 1-1 for AmaZulu.

The score was 1-1 at the interval following an entertaining first-half in the Mother City.

Usuthu took the lead for the first time a few minutes after the restart and it was Vukile Mngqibisa, who converted from the spot-kick to make it 2-1 to AmaZulu.

Joey Antipas, the AmaZulu head coach, decided to pull out Mabhuti Khenyeza in the 71st minute and he introduced another striker Dylan Stoffels.

Both teams launched late attacks in search of a late goal, but it never came and ultimately, AmaZulu emerged 2-1 winners.
