AmaZulu FC will open their 2018/19 Absa Premiership campaign against Baroka FC at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 20h15.
Usuthu are heading into this encounter brimming with confidence having won the 2018 KwaZulu-Natal Premiers Cup at home last weekend.
The Durban club has made some exciting new signings – accomplished goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs, experienced defender Marc Van Heerden and Argentine marksman Emiliano Tade amongst others.
Cavin Johnson, who managed to ensure that AmaZulu retained their status in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) last season, remains in charge of Usuthu.
The 59-year-old South African tactician will be keen to the mastermind a victory over an unpredictable Baroka side in Durban.
Mhlengi Cele was one of Usuthu’s top performers last season and the striker will be eager to inspire the KwaZulu-Natal giants to victory against Baroka.
Meanwhile, Baroka have been busy playing friendly games as part of their preparations for the new campaign.
Bakgaga have been very busy during the current transfer window – signing Kaizer Chiefs striker Emmanuel Letlotlo on loan and Botswana international Onkabetse Mankgantai amongst others.
Wedson Nyirenda has been brought in as the new Baroka head coach and the Zambian tactician will be looking to win his first competitive game in charge of the team.
The Limpopo side will look to Mpho Kgaswane, who was one of Baroka’s key players last season. The left-winger will be hoping to play an important role in helping his side win in Durban.
In head-to-head stats, AmaZulu and Baroka have met twice in the top flight league which was last season.
The two teams played to a 1-1 statemate in the first round encounter which was played in Durban.
Bakgaga then won 2-0 in the second round clash which took place in Polokwane.Share
