Usuthu eye first win against Pirates

AmaZulu FC will welcome Orlando Pirates in an Absa Premiership match at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday.

Kick-off is at 19h30 CAT.

Usuthu were defeated 1-0 by Polokwane City away in their last league match which was played on Saturday, August 10.

The defeat in the Limpopo province was just unfortunate for Usuthu, with City’s goal arriving deep in injury time.

AmaZulu head coach Cavin Johnson is now looking to mastermind Usuthu’s first win of the season against Pirates.

Meanwhile, Pirates were beaten 3-0 by hosts SuperSport United in their previous league game which was played on Wednesday, August 14.

The Buccaneers then lost 1-0 to Highlands Park at home in the 2019 MTN8 Cup quarter-final match over the weekend.

Pirates’ caretaker coach Rulani Mokwena will be hoping to lead his side to victory in Durban.

In head-to-head stats, Pirates and AmaZulu have met in 57 league matches since 1985.

The Buccaneers have claimed 25 wins compared to 10 for Usuthu, while 22 matches have been drawn.

The Durban side has claimed six wins from 29 home league matches against the Soweto side, suffering nine defeats in the process.

Last season, the two teams drew 1-1 in Durban in October 2018, before the return game in Soweto in February 2019 ended in a 4-1 win for Pirates.
