AmaZulu FC will travel to the Harry Gwala Stadium where they are scheduled to face Maritzburg United in an Absa Premiership match on Friday.

Kick-off is at 20h00.

Usuthu are brimming with confidence after booking their place in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 with a victory over Mthatha Bucks at the King Zwelithini Stadium last week.

The National First Division (NFD) side held AmaZulu to a 2-2 draw after extra-time and the hosts went to win 3-0 on penalties.

Usuthu are also enjoying a five-match unbeaten run in the league after defeating their KwaZulu-Natal rivals Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-1 at home almost two weeks ago.

Cavin Johnson’s side is undefeated in its last five league games having recorded three wins and two draws during their current run.

As a result, AmaZulu are placed eighth on the league standings with 26 points from 20 games. They are two points behind sixth-placed Maritzburg.

Siyethemba Mnguni, who scored twice for AmaZulu against Arrows, will be looking to continue his form against Maritzburg and help Usuthu secure a victory.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg also booked their place in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 after defeating ABC Motsepe side Moroka Swallows 3-1 in extra-time at the Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday.

Prior to the Cup clash, the Team of Choice had suffered a 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in a league game at the Orlando Stadium almost two weeks ago.

This was the KwaZulu-Natal outfit’s second defeat in their last five league games. They have recorded two defeats, two wins and one draw during their current run.

Maritzburg are sixth on the league standings with 28 points from 20 games. They are three points behind fourth-place Kaizer Chiefs.

Andrea Fileccia, who scored twice against Swallows last weekend, is the dangerman for Maritzburg and the striker will look to inspire his side to victory against Usuthu.

The winner between AmaZulu and Maritzburg will cement their place in the top eight on the league standings.

The last meeting between the two KwaZulu-Natal clubs ended in a 1-1 draw at the King Zwelithini Stadium on the 12th of September 2017.

Usuthu midfielder Michael Morton netted an own goal, but Mhlengi Cele snatched a late equalizing goal for the hosts.
