Usuthu eye another home win in Umlazi

They’ll be little room for error when Usuthu host Bidvest Wits in the Absa Premiership on Saturday night (20:15) at King Zwelithini Stadium according to Usuthu in form shot stopper Siyabonga Mbatha.

The KZN based outfit may be banking on their home form going into Saturday’s fixture as they aim to negotiate their way out of bottom of the log dangers and steady their league form having come from two consecutive away loses.

Mbatha reckons lessons learned from the KZN derby will come in handy against the former league champions in Umlazi.

‘’The past two games have taught us that we can’t relax, I think in the Orlando Pirates game we were a bit too complacent and in the Maritzburg game, we wanted to win so badly that when that wasn’t happening the going became a bit tough, but we’ve learnt our lesson.’’

The 30-year-old Umlazi born minder believes Usuthu have got the goods to overturn the first round 3-0 loss they suffered at the hand of Gavin Hunt’s men at the Bidvest Stadium.

‘’I don’t think there’s ever an easy game, last week’s game was a clear indication that all games are difficult, it’s either you are playing against someone who is fighting for their lives or who’s playing to win the title, we need to want it more.’’

‘’For us it’s important to collect as many points as possible because we want to finish in the top eight like we did last season. We have to play our best against Wits at home and play for three points. When looking at the points difference on the log, it is still possible to achieve top eight.’’

Against Cape Town City Usuthu escaped unscathed in Umlazi with a 1-0 win thanks to a positive display with his defense on the day, a performance he believes would have to be reciprocated to outfox the students.

‘’I’m still looking to keep five more clean sheets with eight games to go I just need to work hard and ensure that I carry out my duties to the best of my abilities,’’ he concluded.

Last season AmaZulu beat Bidvest Wits 3-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

AmaZulu FC will take on Bidvest Wits at the King Zwelithini stadium on 09 March 2019. Kick Off is at 20:15.
