AmaZulu defeated Magesi 3-0 in the National First Division (NFD) match at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban on Sunday afternoon.
The home side fired the first warning when Lungelo Dlamini narrowly missed the target just 15 minutes into game following Mabhuti Khenyeza’s free-kick.
The pressure was mounting on the Magesi defence and Usuthu were awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute after Ovidy Karuru was fouled in the box.
Usuthu’s inspirational captain Tapelo Nyongo then stepped up and hit the back of the net a minute later to make it 1-0 to AmaZulu.
It was soon 2-0 to AmaZulu a minute before the half-hour mark when veteran striker Khenyeza headed home from close range.
AmaZulu were leading 3-0 during the half-time break after Dlamini scored with a tap in from close range with Karuru grabbing an assist.
Nyongo came very close to extending Usuthu’s lead five minutes after the restart, but his free-kick was well saved by Magesi goalkeeper Katlego Maja.
A minute after the hour-mark the home side suffered a set-back when Butholezwe Ncube was red carded for a late tackle from behind.
Usuthu head coach Joey Antipas decided to introduce Siyabonga Nomvethe in the 70th minute as the home side looked for more goals.
Dlamini had a chance to grab his brace in the closing stages of the game, but he could not find the back of the net and ultimately, AmaZulu won 3-0 on the day.Share
