The KZN Premier’s Cup was launched today at Coastlands Hotel in Durban with Usuthu taking on Thanda Royal Zulu on 13 August in their NFD play off at Richards Bay’s Umhlathuze Sports Complex, 13:30pm.
The opening match will see fellow NFD sides Royal Eagles and Real Kings FC square off against one another at 11:30am for a semi-final berth against Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United on Sunday.
The prestigious tournament has a lot lined up for the province’s clubs including social responsibility activities and exciting entertainment under the social media hash tag, #ziyawa_ebay.
AmaZulu General Manager, Lunga Sokhela welcomed Usuthu’s participation in the tournament.
“We’d like to see the tournament grow and we’re glad to be taking part this year. For us this will play a big role in enhancing our role in community participation.”
“From AmaZulu’s point of view we’d like to thank the MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Bongi Sithole-Moloi for the continued vision of the Premier’s Cup,” said Sokhela.
Sokhela also raised the significance of Usuthu’s participation this year as it coincidences with the celebration of the formation of the Zulu nation over 200 years ago.
Entrance to the matches will be free but supporters will be will asked to obtain tickets from various places in Richards Bay.
The 2015 edition was won by Maritzburg United who beat Thanda Royal Zulu 3-2 at Umhlathuze Sports Complex on 2 August.

Saturday, 13 August Fixtures:
1st QF: Royal Eagles VS Real Kings, at 11:30am.

Sunday, 14 August Fixtures:
1st Semi: Maritzburg United VS Winner of Q2 at 09:00am.
2nd Semi: Winner of QF 1 VS Golden Arrows at 11:30am.
