Update with Craig Rosslee

In this Q&A AmaZulu head coach Craig Rosslee brings us up to speed with his plans for Usuthu after the first two days of training in the 2013 calendar.

AmaZulufc.net: What impression did the first training session give you and your technical team?

Craig Rosslee: The players all look good after being off for 16 days. We don’t want to turn it into another pre-season. It’s just to bring them back up to speed, and to ease them in.

It was quite a nice session and the players enjoyed it. Yesterday we started again with two training sessions, one was more tactical and the afternoon one was a gym session and today we take it from there.

AFC: Anything specific that you have identified to work on?

CR: From the first session on Monday it was quite a few small sided games which I think the players got across what I wanted because we have to start straight away, as we know we don’t have that much time.

Even though we had quite a lengthy break because of the Afcon I have to get across what I’m looking for now.

AFC: Are you going to add more signings to the team?

CR: The new addition for now was the signing of Njabulo Manqana but there are one or two players that we’re also looking at adding in terms of strengthening the squad.

AFC: How would you describe the departure of someone like Clive Barker from AmaZulu?

CR: Obviously without question Clive is one of the best coaches the nation has ever produced with him winning the Afcon.

The fact that Wits have asked him to lead their side speaks volumes, so we have lost someone with great knowledge, intellect and not only that but a great character and motivator. He was great to have around the squad.

AFC: Any planned friendly matches?

CR: Besides the fact that we have quite a few games amongst ourselves we will be looking at perhaps playing some of the Afcon sides that will be based here (Durban), and mix it up with a few PSL, Vodacom and NFD teams.

We will obviously balance it out with where we are within a week. Hopefully we can achieve that to try and get across what I want to implement before our first game with Maritzburg United on the 13th February.
