AmaZulu have been knocked out by Thanda Royal Zulu 4-2 on penalties in the KZN Premiers Cup semifinal on Sunday at Umhlathuze Sports Complex after having played to a 3-3 draw.
At the beginning of the match Linda Bhengu came close to finding the back of the net in the fifth minute but his shot just missed the target.
Just towards the end of the first half Mzwandile Banda broke the deadlock with a great long range shot outside the box giving his side a 1-0 lead.
In the 45th minute Bornwell Mwape scored an equalizer for Usuthu with a great header, beating Thanda’s goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha.
In the second half Bhengu finally scored his first goal for Usuthu with a finish inside the box which gave AmaZulu a 2-1 lead.
Although AmaZulu dominated the match, Thanda kept on being persistent. After being awarded a free kick just outside the box it was Ntuli who made no mistake and took a straight set piece which Murambadoro could not reach taking the score to 2-2.
When the match was approaching the penalty shootout Linda Bhengu came back and scored his brace, beating Mbatha on one-on-one to give AmaZulu a 3-2 lead.
In the dying minutes of the match Siyabonga Zungu got an equalizer for Thanda with a finish after Murambadoro had saved Mpotshane’s shot.
This saw the match straight to the penalties where Thanda sealed their victory as Bhengu and Ayabulela Kanqobe missed their penalties.Share
