Teyise – I have a lot to learn

AmaZuluFC.net had a chat with defender Tamsanqa Teyise who has been one of the standout performers for the club this season alongside Carlington Nyadombo in the heart of defence.

AmaZuluFC.net: Can you describe the 2012/13 season in short from your perspective?

Thamsanqa Teyise: We didn’t start well and I think we were all shocked because we had prepared well for the beginning of the season.

We did get better as time went on and although we are not proud of finishing in 12th place, we did show character by moving away from the relegation zone when we were under a lot of pressure.

AmaZuluFC.net: How would you rate your performance as an individual?

TT: Firstly, let me say that I learnt a lot this season. We did face difficuties before but every season is different and I believe I grew as a player. I was happy with my performance, I did my best to help the team and tried to apply everything that the coach told me.

AmaZuluFC.net: What will it take for the team to be more succesful next season?

TT: The most important thing is for us to continue working as a team and to avoid making costly errors. We need to improve in terms of scoring goals, it’s not enough to create ten good chances if we only score one. I believe that we could’ve won a lot of the games we ended up drawing or losing.

AmaZuluFC.net: What are your personal ambitions for next season?

TT: I want to develop more as a player because the game is always changing and I still have a lot to learn. I’m confident that with the help of the coach and my teammates I will be on a different level next season.

I’m also hoping to score a few goals because finding the back of the net is something that we also aspire to do as defenders.

AmaZuluFC.net: What is your message to your teammates and the supporters?

TT: For my colleagues – I hope they will enjoy the break and spend more time with their families. However, we have to be disciplined and come back strong to prepare for the new season.

I’d like to thank the fans for their support through good and bad times; we promise that next season we’ll be a better team and we’ll make them proud.
