AmaZulu FC were beaten 2-0 by SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership match at the Jonsson Kings Park Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
As a result, Matsatsantsa remained second on the league log, while Usuthu are sitting on the 14th spot on the table.
Matsatsantsa adopted an offensive approach with strikers Thamsanqa Gabuza, Bradley Grobler and Evans Rusike starting in attack.
The deadlock was broken 24 minutes into the match and it was the visitors, who opened the scoring through Rusike.
The ball fell kindly for the Zimbabwean marksman in the box and he fired past AmaZulu goalkeeper Neil Boshoff to make it 1-0 to SuperSport.
Kaitano Tembo’s men were in control of the match and they continued to create chances with the front three working hard.
It was soon 2-0 to SuperSport when Grobler beat Boshoff after the home side’s defence was exposed on the half-hour mark.
The away side then contained AmaZulu and the score 2-0 to SuperSport during the half-time break.
Sibusiso Magaqa was introduced by Usuthu coach Jozef Vukusic at the beginning of the second half as the hosts looked to restore parity.
The home side had a great opportunity to score on the hour-mark when BongiNkosi Ntuli was sent through on goal.
However, the former Mamelodi Sundowns centre forward was brilliantly denied by Ronwen Williams in the SuperSport goal-posts.
The momentum was with Usuthu in the closing stages of the match and Bafana Bafana international Willims pulled off a great save to deny Ntuli with eight minutes left.
The visitors then stood firm at the back and ultimately, SuperSport secured a 2-0 victory over AmaZulu on the day.
