Shaun Cramer excited at AmaZulu contract

Engen U17 KOC graduate Shaun Cramer shares his excitement of signing a first team contract with AmaZulu after spending a season with sister club Durban Warriors.

Although the Glenwood resident – whose break came when he debuted in the 2009 edition of the Engen Tournament while playing for Escombe FC – will be loaned back to Durban Warriors for one season, the path to success is nearer.

According to his current coach at Warriors and former AmaZulu U17 coach, Thulani ‘Tiger’ Hlatshwayo, the 19-year-old’s development has been flawless.

“I remember seeing Shaun three years ago when he was with Escombe FC, I knew that he would be a quality player so we had to convince him to join us,” Hlatshwayo said.

“If you look at his passes he can play long balls and he is also competent in playing carpet football. He has been very consistent and is a very good and disciplined player.

“The fact that he has been offered a first team contract is really progress and motivating to other young players.”

Cramer’s three year deal with AmaZulu will see him spend a season with Durban Warriors on loan.

He told that he wishes to use the following year to continue his Sport Management qualification through distance learning.

“I am really excited to see what the future holds for me. The team is very much encouraging and motivating but I must say it wasn’t easy especially the pre-season trials, they were hard and there was intensive training.”

“The tournament is one of the best ones I’ve played in. For me what really stood out was the way in which everything was run and that we came up against big teams like AmaZulu.”

“Tournaments like Engen are where you discover how good you are as a player because there are so many competitors.”

“I am really grateful to coach Dinto (Lindokuhle Mkhize) and coach Tiger for having faith in me,” said Cramer.

The 2012 edition of the Engen Knockout Challenge promises to showcase more raw talent like Cramer, as all of participants AmaZulu, Golden Arrows, Maritzburg United, and Thanda Royal Zulu’s scouts will be out in full force.

This year’s tournament will be held between 31 August and 2 September at Highbury Sports Grounds in Wentworth.
