Q & A with Simphiwe Lumkwana

The 23 year old left-winger gives us insight into his background and what he’s expecting at the KZN outfit.

Tell us about your family background?

I’m from a place called Samora Mitchell. I’m the first born in a family of three with two younger brother and we stay with our mother. I’m a God fearing person who goes to Goodnews Tabernacle church that’s my spiritual family.

How are you finding life in Durban?

Durban is not too different from Cape Town and I’m loving the weather and the place so i’ts easy for me to adapt.

What are your thoughts on the set up at Usuthu?

It’s a very professional setup as you know I come from the ABC Motsepe League where you don’t really get such a setup. So for me it’s good and it will help me improve as a player.

Besides Stenberg United which other club have you played for?

I’ve been with Chippa United, Phillipi United, Peacemakers FC and an amateur team called Tigerboys.

Your thoughts on this season’s upcoming National First Division campaign?

It’s going to be a tough and challenging season as we working towards promotion which is the main focus for us.

What do you think made the club sign you?

I think they signed me because of my hunger and desire to succeed and hard work that I always put on the field.

What keeps you going in your career?

What keeps me going is the faith and the belief in God as my creator and the author of our lives and obviously the dream to play PSL and overseas. That keeps me going every day.

Do you have a favourite player of your own?

My favourite player is Amigo Memela (Orlando Pirates winger) and Jesus Navas (Manchester City winger).

What’s your impression of the Head Coach, Joey Antipas?

Coach has been great to us and we’re getting to know him well. He likes pushing his players to work harder every day.

What’s the reception like so far from your new teammates?

My teammates has been good to me we like a FAM and everyone pushes one another to work even more harder n most of all we are like brothers.
