AmaZulu head coach Steve has decided to promote two of the club’s Under 17 players, Dylan Stoffels and Graeme Pratt, to the first team.
Both players have been excelling in the junior ranks for AmaZulu and coach Barker said he felt this is the right time to bring them in.
“They have been training with the first team for some time and so I felt that it would be better if we just sign them and give them contracts in our NFD squad,” said Barker.
Striker Stoffels has made quite a name for himself as he is also part of the South Africa Under 17 team. On the other hand Pratt is a solid 17-year-old defender who has all the basics and discipline.
“It is important that we rope them in at this stage while monitoring their progress at the same time. Playing in the first team will also help them to grow and indeed they are the future of this team,” said Barker.
The two players also featured for AmaZulu in the Multi Choice Diski Challenge last season and have enjoyed the experience they are now getting with the first team. Although they are still in school, Barker insisted that this move will not affect their academics.
“They are still young and as much as we are giving them a chance, we don’t want to push them too much. Education still remains a priority to us and so we have put all that into consideration,” said the head coach.Share
