Ohlange High School win 2019 Sumptuous Cup


Ohlange High School were crowned the 2019 Sumptuous Cup champions after beating Mlokotho High School 4-1 in the final on 10 August in Empangeni to claim their R10 000 cash cheque.

Usuthu first team players were among the spectators watching every minute of the nail-biting action as they also motivated the youngsters throughout the day.

Ohlange coach Boysie Mthethwa applauded his players for coming out the best of their opponents on the final.

“I’m very happy with the boys, there is a lot of improvement, shape wise.

“I’m very proud of them, even though we need to improve here and there but nonetheless I’m proud we were able to win the tournament,” he concluded.

Sumptuous Catering Managing Director, Sbonelo Mlangeni congratulated all the teams for participating in the tournament.

Mlangeni spoke of going a step better in next year’s approach into growing the 14 team high school’s football initiative.

“We want to grow this initiative next next year, and try to integrate the tournament into a league which will run from January till before the trial examinations in September,” said Mlangeni.

AmaZulu striker Somila Ntsundwana praised the level in which participating schools rose to the occasion in some of the quarterfinal encounters.

“You could see the players enjoyed their game. I’m sure such a tournament will go a long way into showing them where they are and hopefully it can also help them improve going forward,” said Ntsundwana.

Although Ulundi Region school, Mlokotho High School crashed 4-1 at the hands of the ruthless Ohlange in the final their road to the final was somewhat dignified.

Mlokotho had topped their region’s log standings with a 10 point account leading up to the weekend’s showpiece after 8 weeks of football. It however took penalties in the quarter final and semifinal for them to overcome all their opponents.

Ohlange had also amassed an equal number of points with the runners up during their local play offs. They beat Mathunjwa High School in the quarter final 5-1 before managing a 4-1 rout of fellow eThekwini region side Adams College in the semi final.
