AmaZulu captain, Tapelo Nyongo reflects on leading Usuthu on what has been an emotional ride which came tumbling down on the final day of National First Division action at the hands of FC Cape Town.
A first half goal the 21 year old defender and his teammates conceded at the NNK Rugby Stadium put paid to their dream of taking part in this year’s promotional playoffs.
“It’s really hard to even think about the game. No excuses for us not to win but we tried, they utilized their chance they got and it was scrappy throughout.
“From us as players it is just to thank the chairman, management, technical staff and the supporters for all their efforts. I would like to apologize to everyone who we have disappointed in the process.”
“It was one hell of a rollercoaster season for me and the team as whole, pity we did not give the team the 85th birthday present it deserves. It’s just heartbreaking as we have been through a lot as a team and lost a brother in the process.”
“One thing I can say as a captain is that I’m very proud of my mates for all their efforts and hard work and commitment to the course. It was such an honour to lead the team. To our supporters, thank you for being there for us through out and sorry for the disappointment,” said Nyongo.
AmaZulu ended the season on 5th position with 47 points; ultimately ending two points behind Stellenbosch FC who took up the third available play off place.Share
