AmaZulu winger Nkosinathi Mthiyane talks about their preparations for the second half of the season, the clubs new signings and CHAN.
AmaZuluFC.net: How was the first week of training?
Nkosinathi Mthiyane: Everything is going well. Right now we’re just working on getting our fitness levels up and also improving our game because we did make some mistakes last year.
AmaZuluFC.net: You’re in the top half of the log but there are many teams below you who are gunning for your spot – what will it take to stay up there?
NM: We have to play the way we did at the start of the season and work as a team. There’s always pressure in this league but it’s better to fight from where we are than to be at the bottom.
AmaZuluFC.net: The January transfer window is open and the club has already signed new players like Ruzaigh Gamildien and Nhlanhla Shabalala – how do you feel about this?
NM: It’s a good thing because we need quality players to strengthen the team. Of course it means more competition for game time but it’s a challenge for each and every player to pull up their socks.
AmaZuluFC.net: The 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) is about to get underway – what are your thoughts on this tournament?
NM: I think it’s a good competition because it gives locally-based players a chance to represent the country and to prove what they can do. It’s good to have more players exposed to playing at international level.
AmaZuluFC.net: Do you think Bafana Bafana can go far in this tournament (CHAN)?
NM: I think so. It’s a strong squad and they are playing at home so I hope they’ll give everything on the field. I believe in the team.
