Coach Manqoba Mngqithi has elected to put his trust in his current crop of players as he faces in-form Gavin Hunt’s Supersport United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday.
“To be honest our players are very positive we know for sure that we have got a very solid team, we have done a lot with them during pre-season,” the former teacher confirmed to journalists at AmaZulu’s Media Open Day on Tuesday.
“They are very confident that they can pull out very good result against any opposition, I want to believe that. Maybe the setback against Free State Stars is going to make us hungrier to try and make sure that we don’t do the same,” the coach said.
He elaborated that despite pressing indications to bolster his squad with a striker, he would no longer be signing Orlando Pirate’s Siphelele Mthembu after he did not meet certain fitness test specifications.
The Pretoria based ‘Matsatsantsa’ have had limited luck in Durban in the past but come into the match having beaten neighbours Golden Arrows in Pretoria and drawn against Free State Stars.
Vice-Captain and defender Bukasa Kasonga reckons it will be the KZN side’s chance to record their first win for many others to come at their home venue.
“I think it is a normal game like all other league games. I believe in my team and the technical staff. We just have to be a unit. Those who will be chosen to start, if they will enjoy the support from the fans we can bag the three points.
“If they beat Golden Arrows and drew against Free State Stars it doesn’t mean they will do that with us. We’re a different team,” said the man nicknamed ‘ The Chairman’.
