A 2-1 win by the AmaZulu u15 team against rivals Golden Arrows on Sunday at Tills Crescent saved the the KZN team some pride as their seniors , the u17 team lost against ‘Abafana Bes’thende’.
In a match u15 coach Justice Mtshali describes as an example of how Durban Central League football ought to be both teams came out firing from all cylinders.
“My players had been a bit skeptical before the match because some non regular players had to come in for the three players that are away in the tournament in Germany.
We managed to connect at the most crucial stages of the game and the players showed commitment,” said Mtshali. Their goals were scored by Thembinkosi Gwala and Njabulo Mhlongo.
The result in the senior age group encounter favoured Arrows and produced almost a mirror performance to the 11h:30 earlier match at Tills Crescent according to u17 coach Thulani Hlatshwayo.
“We let them off because the match was open. We just missed a lot of chances and I thought it wasn’t too tough a match for us.
We were 2-0 down but came back through a goal by Sandile Sishuba who also got a few more chances that he could have buried,” said the coach.
Sazi Ngubane’s u-13s side cruised to a 7-2 win over Escombe FC through a hat-trick by Luyanda Gumede. Thabiso Sishi and Phakamani Gumede both scored twice for the young ‘Usuthu’.
